From Mark, Julie and Mindy Pierce

Hi Bob and Becky,

Hope you all are doing well this Christmas. Mindy and our son Jarrett have flew over for Christmas...so it's been a much awaited reunion for us. Misawa is well...cold. It's a nice small community where everyone knows everyone. So, it can be good and bad. I'm teaching full time and running the Special Ed dept. at Edgren High School.  Julie is working as the Health Care Integrator/admin at the hospital. Our jobs keep us busy, but we're trying to have a life outside of work. We ended up living on base just because it was more convenient and b/c the heating bills can get outrageous in the winter.

Mindy is doing great at Saint Leo in school and swimming.  Her roommate, Alison Luthman, is playing tennis at St. Leo and this arrangement has actually worked out surprisingly well.  Mindy's very close with her team and I think there are a lot of swimmers that push her at practice. I think most of the female swimmers, at least freshman, live in the same dornm next to the pool. My parents drove down to see her meet at the Savannah College of Design in December. They said Mindy and her St. Leo team were a very close knit group. She swam a ton of events and relays and my parents were very impressed. Her coach, Cyle Sage, made everyone swim the mile on Friday when they rolled into town in their team vans AND you know Miss sprinter Mindy loved that! ha ha

Have a good Christmas and Happy New Year,

Stay in touch,

Mark and Julie Pierce

How are the Kingfish? Hope you all are having a good year! We miss you all and Germany!

Hey Clinton's!

Good to hear from you.  Looks like you are enjoying your life in Europe.  We are still here in Omaha, Nebraska and probably will be here for another 2 years.  Alex is very busy with swimming this season.  He go accepted to a couple of universities in SD and MN but still didn't decide on which school to choose.  Grant is interested in lots of things...his volleyball team led by an excellent coach (me) won the league championships.   Ania is taking care of all 3 boys (including Poker) and we enjoy our happy lives here in the Mid West.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Alan Muther

Hey Coach Bob, how are you doing? It was nice seeing you this summer in Ramstein. Everything is going well for me down here in Florida. My parents are still in Bitburg and my father is now a teacher at Bitburg H.S. after retiring from the Air Force. I've been very busy lately. I'm taking 18 credit hours this semester and after next semester, I'll have my AA. I'm now majoring in Business and I'm looking forward to it. Keith Johnson is actually sitting right next to me. He goes to Florida Community College Jacksonville now, but he comes to see me a lot in Tallahassee. He's thinking very seriously about transferring to FSU and we are going to join the club team next year. Lately, I've been getting a lot into tennis and ping pong. Other than that, I'm just writing to see how everything is going and how the AMAZING KINGFISH SWIM TEAM IS DOING!!! I see that my buddies Blake Davis and Steven T. are doing very very very well this year! Anyways, congratulations to everyone else and good luck at Champs in Berlin 2008! I miss you all.
Take Care.

Sincerely,
Alan Muther

Dear Coach Bob,
I hope you had a good summer and that swim season is going successfully. I have heard a little bit
about the team from my mom and Olivia.

Things are going well for me. I am at Florida Gulf Coast University, taking 15 credits towards my
Secondary Education major, and swimming on a Division I team for Neil Studd and Elizabeth Lykins.
We swim 9 practices a week and do 3 weights sessions, altogether equaling about 25 hours a week.
We also run 3 miles 2 mornings a week and do an hour of dry land on Saturdays.

I really enjoy the workouts. When we split up into sprint and distance I always swim with the distance group, and I swim in the breaststroke group when we split up by strokes. We typically swim about 8-9,000 yards in one workout and up to 15,000 yards in a day. Yesterday we had two workouts and did a total of 14,800 yards. We did 6,400 in the morning and 8,400 in the afternoon. But the major thing was our morning main set was 8x500 as 300 medium pace, 200 fast on 6:15. Then in the afternoon the main
set was 8x800 as 2x800 pull, 2x800 negative split, 4x800 fast on 10min and I went 9:50, 9:50,
9:40, and 9:43.

The coaches were really happy with me but it was such a hard day. Then to add to it after afternoon practice I had to go do weights. I was so physically tired I was shaking. I did weights really slowly; it took me an hour and it usually only takes me 30 min. I am pretty sore today, but practice this morning wasn't too intense, it was just lots of yardage again.

Luckily my hard work is paying off; we swam our first meet against the University of Miami on Oct. 13th and I went an 11:18 in the 1000 yd. free, a 56.76 in the 100 yd. free, and a 2:33 in the 200 yd. breast, all personal best times for me. We have a meet against Florida Atlantic University, University of Tampa, and Georgia Tech. this weekend with a 16 event order so I expect to be swimming the 1,000 free, 100 breast, 200 breast, and maybe a 4th event. I hope to go sub-2:30 in the 200 breast. Results will be posted on the team/school website if you would like to check them out. The website is:
www.fgcuathletics.com/swimdive/home.

I will be home in Landstuhl for one week in December and hope to see you and the swim team then.
Until then, good luck to you and the Kingfish!

Sincerely,
Teri Plotkin

Hey Coach Bob!

School's been going pretty well for me so far. I'm taking 15 credit hours and they're not that bad.

Swimming's been hard but it's doing a lot of good for me. We have about 10 girls and 11 guys on the team. We started the first week in Sept. and our first practice started at 6:30am in the morning.  We had to swim a 3000 for time. That was a real challenge for me.  We have practice on Monday from 4:30-6 ish and then doubles on Tues. and Thursday, weights on wed. and Friday.

Last Saturday was our intersquad meet. I swam the 100 back, 200 back, 100 breast, and 50 free.  Next weekend will be our first conference meet against Florida Southern and Savannah college. They're supposed to be pretty good.  There is a freshman on my team that is about 2 seconds faster than me in the back so she really pushes me which is good.  Every Thursday afternoon, we all swim in a lake and it's really tough but I feel accomplished after it's over.

How is everything going over there and with the kingfish? I talked to Jenny and I heard she's back from her mission. It feels like she just left!

Did you get a lot of new fast swimmers? Are the Malletts on the team? Gabby and Sarah? Their sister used to swim with me when I lived in MS and I heard they moved to Ramstein.

Bob,
What's up coach. How is the old K-town Kingfish Swim Team. It took some
time to get situated here in Hawaii. It was a total culture shock.
Totally different from Germany. Neill and I joined a swim team about
three weeks ago. The team is kind of small but the coach seems like a
good coach. She says that Neill and me have good stroke technique and our
old coach must have been a good one. At the moment she is working us
really hard trying to get us back into shape. At the moment we are
swimming in a fifty meter pool and it is only three blocks away from our
house. We have a swim meet in about a week and a half so you can see our
times after that... but if you want a quick status check Neill and I did
FIVE two-hundred frees on two thirty and we made them all with time to
spare. Our slowest was a two twenty one and our fastest was a two seven.
So I think that we are doing pretty well for trying to get back into
shape. Tell everybody that I looked at the times on the site for the
last swim meet and they all were good except for Blake... a 26 for fifty
free he should be at like 20:)
                                        PEACE OUT,
                                                     Sean

Brian Harris

My name is Brian Harris and I was a member of the kingfish from 1983-1985.  I am curious if there is a place where alumni are posting information on old members.  Some of my fondest childhood memories are with the team and would like to try and get in contact with some of them.  The coach at the time was Gerd Bachhaus (spelling is questionable).  I’m sure if you go back in the records you will find me and my brother Kevin.  Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Erin Noyes

Hello Bob,
Well we arrived in Washington safe and sound after a long plane ride. I took my English placement test and was able to get into English 101 and I'm taking chemistry 110. I really enjoy both class, they're different from high school classes but they are fun. I also would like to tell you that I was able to get a job as a Personal Fitness Trainer at the Anytime Fitness Center here in Moses Lake. I work practically everyday from 3:30 to 8pm and I already have 2 young ladies I'm working on getting a regular schedule with. I love my job, its fun and new and its something that I want to do. I'm also doing some swimming lessons with my nephew on the side. So from 7:45 to noon I'm in classes and then from 3:30 to 8 I'm at work and on weekends I either work, study or do swim lessons.  My schedule is pretty packed but its fun and work it. I'll keep you updated to how my job goes and school. I won't know my grades until after our first major unit test.
I hope everything back in Germany is great, I miss everybody there. Tell "my kids" I say hi if you can. How are they doing by the way? Working hard iIhope. Well I have to go, I have class in about 45 minutes. Hope to hear from you soon.

Erin

Coach Allyson

Hey Bob,

Hope you are all doing well. I took a look at the kids times the other day and they look pretty good. Rachel Money has really improved along with Tess Barnes! Glad to see Jackie is still swimming! You guys look really good to win Champs. Good luck to all of you. Ashley told me she emailed you the other day and told you she made the Colorado All stars team. What a wonderful experience for these kids. They swam against the best kids from 6 states, a lot of good swimmers! Well, it was this past weekend and it was a great time. Being on a bus full of kids for 11 hours brought back memories of Germany! This brings me to some unbelievable news from Ashley. She dropped 4 seconds off her 200 free and won 3rd place with a 2:05.79!!!! From lane one, she brought the heat from the outside and took everyone by surprise. She also dropped 15 secs in her 500 free and took 7th with a 5:43.21. She was right on best times in all other events, but these were the two highlights. I thought you would be excited to hear this news, her coaches for all stars were very pleased and asked me where she trained before csst. They were impressed on how prepared she was for distance swimming. 6000 meters a day helped, I am sure!! Take care and good luck at divisions and Champs!

Allyson

Ashley Fuchs

Hi coach Bob,

I just wanted 2 say hi. I am doing good in school. I enjoy practicing at the Olympic training center, coach mike has taught me alot. I have been picked to compete in the all-stars meet in Kansas with the top 10 girls on team Colorado against teams from 4 other states. Even though my dad is back in Iraq I am having fun in Colorado and I miss Germany. I have qualified for state in every event even 100back! And my new goal is to qualify for zones in August. But i still remember that sportsmanship is still the most important thing like you taught me. here are my times:(yards)

50free: 27:20
100free: 59:21
200free: 2.09:46
100im: 1.09:54
200im: 2.28:06
100br: 1.17:43
500free: 5.58:02

Hey Coach!!
Well its me Alex and i just wanted to update you about my swimming and stuff
like that!
I sent u message about a month ago but i dont think you recieved it so im
writing you a new one.
Anyways...high school (Papillion-LaVista) swimming started 3 weeks ago and
its TOUGH!! before that I was still swimming club season (Papillion
Monarchs). We have practice 9-11 practices a week!! Morning practice starts
at 5:30(aaaahhh...nuttin like jumping into a freezin chlorinated pool at 5
in the mornin) and ends at 7:00, afternoon practice starts at 3:30 and ends
at 5:45. My first high school meet was this last Thursday but I didn't get
any personal best times since Riccione :(....but my coach Lynn Weaver said
that his 2x day practices are meant for me to get best times at State
Champs. My goal this season is to get top 8 at State Champs, as you know
there is no age group for State champs so it'll be extra hard. School is
great, nice and cool people, and of course good grades ;)!!! And the pool is
at the high school so no 30 mile drive on the Autobahn ;) I really miss your
coaching and all of the KINGFISHERS!!! I looked at the EFSL Standings and
looks like we have a real good girls 17-19, boys 13-14 and 15-16
team (especially that new Drew kid)!!! Hopefully you guys will win Champs and
Say hi to all my kingfish mates and coaches!!
Alex Jaholkowski
P.S. GO
KINGFISH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

Coach Adeline

Hi All.

Just thought that I would drop you a line to let you know that I am settling in to the Tampa Area. We have been here just over two weeks now and are learning our way around rather quickly. I am enjoying our neighborhood and am relearning the Spanish language. Aeryk has settled into school rather well so far and seems to be enjoying it. I am currently in the process of looking for a job as fulfilling as the one I had working with all of you. Below is my email address if anyone would like to write. I am usually pretty good about writing back in a timely manner.

Take Care.

Keith Johnson

Hi Coach Bob,

It is Keith. I hope that you and the team are doing well. I
miss everyone a lot and am trying to come to Ramstein for the
summer. School and swimming are going well. I am swimming
well and my times are dropping a lot. I have set 3 school
records here and am trying to set a few more. The program
here is not that well, but our new coach is trying to build
it up more by recruiting a lot of fast swimmers. I definitely
miss the team and enjoyed the Kingfish a lot more than this
team, not to say that I am not having fun here. Tell
everyone that I said hi and that I hope that they are all
doing well. Happy Holidays!

Keith

Betsy Howe

This is a letter Bob received recently from a former Kingfish,
Betsy Howe, class of 2005 - Ramstein. She is attending Case
Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.
http://www.case.edu/athletics/varsity/winter/wswim/roster.htm
She sends her best wishes to all.

Hello Bob!

I am just writing a quick e-mail to say hello and see how things are
going with the Kingfish. Hopefully things are going well for you
all...I am sure you are into the busy, busy part of the season now!

Things are going well here in college. This year is especially
academically challenging...organic chemistry has been quite the killer.
I have 19 credit hours, which are all Nursing classes (except the
Oragnic Chem.), and then 8 hour clinicals. My nursing classes are going
really well...they are a lot of work and I have learned so much about
the human body! I have passed all of my tests to give medication and
shots, so that makes things extra exciting. : ) I have my clinicals on
a cardiac unit at the Cleveland Clinic...usually very busy, and every
once in awhile we really get to test out our skills when a patient codes!

Swimming is going well. We are at the point in the season where we are
just swimming, swimming, swimming, and lifting, lifting, lifting. Ten
times a week, with meets on the weekends adds up to a bit of breakdown!
So, my times have not been where I want them to be, but hopefully they
will come down a bit when we rest for a couple of days before our winter
invitational the first week of December. This year I am training
sprint...still working on that hand speed, but it has greatly improved.

We will be going to Florida for 12 days for training trip in
January and pretty soon after that we will begin to taper for our
conference championships, which are going to be held here at home!

I have talked to Dan Downs a couple of times since he has been at Walter
Reed...he seems to be doing okay. It is actually kind of neat: one of
his best friends from high school in New Mexico was best
friends/roommates/teammates with my assistant coach here at Case, when
they were undergrads at Denison University. It's a small world!

I hope things are going well with you and your family, and with the
Kingfish! Write and keep me updated on everything when you get a
chance. Tell everyone hello for me.

Betsy
