Things You Need to Know from Coach Bob
Kingfish Meet Entry
Procedures
Our
next meet is on
Sunday, December 7th.
Please have entries in
to Coach Clinton no
later than 8pm on
Tuesday, December 2nd.
If
I don't receive your
entries I will assume
that you will not be
at the meet.
Here’s some
considerations:
1) If you are close to
a qualifying time in an
event, go ahead and
enter that event.
2) Choose at least one
event that you have not
competed in yet.
3) If you don’t know
what the qualifying time
standards are check here
for
Champs and here for
Long Distance times.
Print them out so you
can see where you're at.
4) It is not too early
to go for those
qualifying times! Know
your qualifying times!
5) If you notice that
you still have quite a
lot of time to shave off
to qualify, don’t
despair. Keep working
to improve your times
and you can get
“pick-up” for Champs to
fill out the heats. We
had a number of swimmers
in that category last
year and a few of those
swam so well at Champs
that they placed in the
top 8 finishers.
Here
are some answers to common
questions on meet entries:
1)
What events should I swim?
Throughout the season all
Kingfish swimmers should
swim all of the events on
their program for the
appropriate age group.
If you
are unsure as to what events
you should swim talk to your
coach for recommendations.
Your coach will be able to
tell you what events might
be best for a particular
meet.
2)
What events are offered for
my age group, how many
events can I enter, and are
there qualifying time
standards?
The
European Forces Swim League
(EFSL) offers the following
events:
Regular Season Meets and the
Division Championships
Ages
12 and Under – 50 Free,
100 Free, 200 Free, 50 Back,
50 Breast, 50 Fly, 100 IM,
200 IM
Ages
13 and Up – 50 Free, 100
Free, 200 Free, 400 Free,
100 Back, 100 Breast, 100
Fly, 200 IM
*
Swimmers may
enter 3 individual
events per meet (no
qualifying time standards).
Long
Distance Championship
Ages
10 and Under – 800 Free
*
Swimmers may enter just the
800 Free (must make the
qualifying time standard).
Ages
11 and Up – 400 IM, 800
Free, 1500 Free
*
Swimmers may enter 1,
2, or 3 events
(consult with your coach
before entering and you must
make the qualifying time
standard).
EFSL
Championships
Any
combination of the regular
season events, 3
events per day for the 2
day meet.
*
Swimmers must make the
qualifying time standard
during regular season meets.
3)
Can I choose my own events?
Yes,
although your coach may want
you to swim specific
events. If you choose 3
events talk to your coach
first and get your coaches
opinion.
Don’t
be surprised if when the
final entries come out your
coach has changed 1 or 2
events. Kingfish coaches
generally honor your
choices, but may change
events based on how things
are going in practice and
how close you may be to
qualifying for champs.
4)
When and who do I send my
entries to?
Meet
entries are due to Coach Bob
Clinton the Tuesday evening
prior to the meet. Send all
entries via e-mail to:
clintonr@greennet.de.
If you can’t get through via
e-mail call at
06372-509-448.
5) I
want to swim relays, how
does this work?
Choosing swimmers for relays
is a coach responsibility
and swimmers are selected to
put the best relay
combination together.
A legal
relay in EFSL must be mixed
gender, 2 girls and 2 boys,
or any combination if
swimmers of the correct age
and gender are not available
(coaches may pull a swimmer
up from a younger age
group).
Relay
slots are not guaranteed and
are based on individual
times, attitude, and
sportsmanship. Relays are
fun and therefore coaches
work to place all swimmers
that desire to swim on an
appropriate relay team.
